Both of my parents are immigrants, and my father is from Sicily, which made this visit to Palermo – a marvelous island region of Italy – all the more special.
Join me in discovering the rustic beauty of Palermo, where the architecture and the people tell tales of its deep and multi-cultural history. Immerse yourself in the haunting catacombs of the Arab-Norman Palermo Cathedral, the vibrant markets bustling with life, and my emotional entrance to the island. 💕 Thank you for your support! 💕
In this video, we are continuing our road trip in Italy and this time, we are in the southern part of Italy, in beautiful Palermo Italy, the capital city of the Sicilian Island. Palermo Italy is the largest city in the island of Sicily and one of the top destinations in southern Italy. To get to Palermo from Naples Italy, we decided to travel via a car ferry which was suppose to be a 10 hour overnight sail. Once we got to Naples, we were told that the weather was bad and the waves were too high, so the ferry will not depart until next morning. Since we bought tickets that included sleeping cabins, we were allowed on board so we can spend the night and mos...

From Mount Etna to Palermo: Exploring Sicily, Italy - Mediterranean journey | DW Documentary
As she travels the Mediterranean, journalist Sineb El Masrar visits Sicily, Italy’s largest island. She meets citrus farmers and puppeteers, and journeys from active volcano Mount Etna to the regional capital, Palermo, a hub for marine rescue efforts.
Sicily produces some 1.5 million tons of citrus fruit annually. Near Catania, Sineb helps organic farmer Manfredi Grinaudi with the winter harvest. She also meets Enrica Arena, whose company "Orange Fiber" makes clothing from citrus peel.
Sicily has a dramatic history, and nobody tells it better than the "Fratelli Napoli", a long-established family of puppeteers from Catania. In the "Piccolo Teatro", Sineb learns all about this famous performance tradition.
Sicilians have a special bond with "Mama Etna," as they affectionately call Europe...

In this short travel documentary, shot in 4K on the Sony a7III, I take you to Palermo, Sicily, where I visited on my honeymoon trip to Europe last fall. This short film is a cinematic and personal experience depicting my first exploration of a place of ancestral roots.
This film encapsulates the essence of our visit to Palermo, showcasing its rich heritage and charm in anamorphic cinemascope.
I am proud of this short film, which portrays my first encounter with my ancestral lands. If you enjoy it, please like and subscribe! Thanks for watching.

In this short travel documentary, shot in 4K on the Sony a7III, I take you to Palermo, Sicily, where I visited on my honeymoon trip to Europe last fall. This short film is a cinematic and personal experience depicting my first exploration of a place of ancestral roots.
This film encapsulates the essence of our visit to Palermo, showcasing its rich heritage and charm in anamorphic cinemascope.
I am proud of this short film, which portrays my first encounter with my ancestral lands. If you enjoy it, please like and subscribe! Thanks for watching.

Since we bought tickets that included sleeping cabins, we were allowed on board so we can spend the night and most of next day on the ferry. The water was very agitated so we felt pretty sick the whole time we were on the Palermo ferry.
Once we got to Palermo Italy, we decided to walk through the city and check off some places on our list of things to see in Palermo.
Our fist stop is Piazza Marina Palermo where locals organized an antiquities Sunday market. Near the Sunday antiques market is the Giardino Garibaldi park where we took a stroll. The Garibaldi park Palermo is a great place to spend some time with family and for kids to have fun riding their bicycles.
If you are looking for places to eat or drink in Palermo, visit via Vittorio Emanuele Palermo which is the main walking street in Palermo Italy. As a travel tip, in order to find the top things to do in Palermo, we checked out Trip Advisor and found some cool ideas of top sights to visit in Palermo. Once we got some ideas of what to do and where to go, we went on a walking tour in Palermo.
As we were walking through the city, we wondered off the main street and ended up in Piazza Pretoria Palermo. In the middle of the Piazza, there is a beautiful fountain - Fontana Pretoria. The Pretoria fountain is beautifully decorated with sculptures and although the water feature was off, Fontana Pretoria is a beautiful place to visit while in Palermo Italy.
Next on our Palermo walking tour, we visit the Santa Maria Dell'Ammiraglio Palermo known for it's beautiful byzantine mosaics. Although we were not able to go into the church, we were able to visit the Basilica San Cataldo right next to it. The San Cataldo Church has three beautiful domes and a unique style.
Next on our Palermo sightseeing tour, we visit the Basilica Santa Caterina D'alessandria. The main reason why we wanted to visit the Santa Caterina D'asessandria church is because it has a terrace that offers a beautiful view of the City of Palermo Italy. You can see the whole city from above so if you are looking for the best viewpoint in Palermo Italy, this is it.
Next in our Palermo city tour, we visit one of the busiest places in Palermo - Piazza Quattro Canti - the historical center of Palermo. The Quattro Canti Piazza is the meeting point of 2 main streets of Palermo, creating 4 corners, each decorated with a beautiful fountain and a statues on the bottom, one for each season. The 4 corners also have statues representing the 4 Spanish kings of Sicily. Piazza Quattro Canti is a pedestrian area and the 2 main streets that meet here are full of restaurants, hotels and shops.
The next stop in our Palermo tour guide is Cattedrale di Palermo, which is the main Palermo Cathedral. The Cathedral of Palermo showcases different architectural styles and is definitely of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Palermo Cathedral is connected, through two pointed arches, with the Archbishop's Palace, making the church look like a castle, Palermo, Sicily, Italy.
Our next stop is Mercado Del Capo. The Mercado Del Capo is a Bustling street market offering a wide selection of local meats, seafood, produce & Sicilian bites.
Since we were walking the whole morning, we worked out quite an appetite, so we stopped for lunch is a local restaurant - Scola Pasta, where we had some delicious seafood and traditional Italian food.
The next day unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse, so we didn't do much exploring, but we wanted to at least check out the Palermo Port and look for a coffee shop to get a hot coffee to warm us up. After our stroll in the Palermo marina, we ended up going for lunch to Anica Ristorante and Pizza Gourmet.

Sicilians have a special bond with "Mama Etna," as they affectionately call Europe’s highest active volcano. Sineb accompanies volcanologist Giuseppe Salerno up the peak to a chilly 3,000 meters above sea level. Then it's back to the milder temperatures of the Mediterranean: Palermo is Sicily’s capital, and has a population of almost 700,000. It was long considered a stronghold of the Sicilian mafia, until residents fought back. Sineb meets Chiara Utro from the anti-mafia movement "Addiopizzo", as well as Palermo Mayor Leoluca Orlando, who helps people rescuing refugees at sea. Finally, Sineb visits Modica, where she tastes the exquisite products of a local chocolate manufacturer. That’s enough to tempt her colleague Jaafar Abdul Karim to join her, and the two compare notes on their Mediterranean journeys.
